CLIENT QUESTIONS · PROPERTY DECISIONS

How do I choose a commercial real estate broker for my property?

Evaluate relevant experience, the proposed assignment, communication and the evidence behind a broker's recommendations.

All client guides

Start with the fit between the broker's work and your assignment. Ask for relevant property examples, the broker's role in those transactions and an explanation of how that experience applies to your building or requirement. Shopping center leasing, selling an occupied asset and finding a business location involve different tasks, even when the same broker can support more than one service.

Ask how the assignment would begin, what information is needed, how the property or requirement would be presented and how progress would be communicated. A useful conversation should cover likely questions, responsibilities and decisions as well as marketing. Aaron's public transaction examples identify the CBM1 team members named in the source announcement, and an initial consultation can establish the appropriate scope for your own assignment.

Questions clients ask

What should I ask about a broker's past transactions?

Ask which party the broker represented, the role of any team members and what aspects of the assignment are comparable to yours. Those details make the example more informative than a property name alone.

What should I expect from an initial discussion with Aaron?

A review of your objective, property or space requirement, timing and available information, followed by an explanation of the next steps and the representation appropriate to the assignment.
